Keothavong sustained the injury during a doubles match at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, California, on Tuesday when she collided with a fence while trying to chase down a drop shot.

Keothavong and Japanese partner Ayumi Morita were playing Julie Coin and Marie-Eve Pelletier in the first round in Stanford. The injury happened with Keothavong and Morita leading 5-3 in the second set having lost the first 4-6.

Keothavong said: “I was running towards the fence for an angled shot. I tried to avoid the fence and, in doing so I twisted my knee.

“I’m flying to London to consult with my team of doctors and physios. I will have to rehab for the rest of the season. Of course I’m disappointed to be out for the rest of the season but I’ll continue to work with my team and look forward to coming back next season.”
