Alex de Minaur played a leading role in Australia’s United Cup win against the Czech Republic on Tuesday.

After Maya Joint lost to Barbora Krejcikova in the opening rubber, de Minaur saved the Australian team by defeating Jakub Mensik 6-4, 6-1 in Sydney.

The ‘Demon’ then paired with Storm Hunter to defeat Miriam Skoch and Dalibor Svrcina, 6-2, 6-3.

Consequently, Australia will face an Iga Swiatek-led Polish team in the quarter-finals.

De Minaur will hope for further success when his nation faces Poland in Friday’s quarter-final match.

Despite being one of the strongest teams in the tournament, the Australian squad may struggle to deal with a Polish team that have been in red-hot form.

Poland are yet to drop a set at the event, with Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz winning their two matches at the event.

Will Alex de Minaur defeat Hubert Hurkacz?

Hubert Hurkacz’s return to the ATP Tour has been nothing short of spectacular.

The former world number six struggled with injuries throughout 2025, but has returned to the court in emphatic style, defeating Alexander Zverev and Tallon Griekspoor without dropping a set.

De Minaur will have to be wary of Hurkacz’s form heading into their contest on Friday, or else he may end up on the losing side.

De Minaur will take great confidence heading into the match, having comprehensively defeated the Pole in their last meeting.

At the 2025 Indian Wells Masters, de Minaur defeated Hurkacz 6-4, 6-0 in the round of 32.

Seven years earlier, the Australian defeated Hurkacz in their first ever meeting at the Atlanta Open. A year later, Hurkacz claimed his sole victory to date against de Minaur, beating the ‘Demon’ 6-3, 6-4 at the 2019 Madrid Masters.
