Katie Boulter’s fine start to the 2026 season continued as she progressed through to the third round of the Miami Open.

Boulter and Clara Tauson played out a frenetic two sets, before the Dane was forced to retire in the decider.

The British star will now play Karolina Muchova in the third round as Boulter’s relationship with new coach Michael Joyce continues to blossom.

Following the walkover victory, Boulter revealed one aspect of her game she was particularly pleased with in Miami.

Katie Boulter impressed by the way she regrouped against Clara Tauson

Boulter immediately sent kind words to Tauson following the injury that forced her out of the match in the third set.

Speaking on-court after the match Boulter said: “I wish her the best – it’s not nice to be injured. It was a complete battle, some ugly tennis and ugly conditions as well, but you have to find a way.

“Unfortunately she couldn’t finish but it is what it is. It’s never the way you want to win but happy to be through to the next round.”

Boulter’s first set loss was a worry, but she was delighted with the way she reacted to losing the tie-break.

“Honestly that match could have gone very quickly. In the first set I put a lot of pressure on myself to get it done – I thought I played some really good stuff.

“I had a few frustrations boiling after the first set and I easily could have gone down quickly but I managed to regroup myself quickly at 2-0 down.”

She added: “I was pleased with the way I mentally fought today as it easily could have gone the other way.”

Boulter has won 11 matches already on the WTA Tour, which was massively boosted by her Ostrava Open victory.

What happened the last time Katie Boulter reached the Miami Open third round

Boulter has rarely been at her absolute best at the Miami Open, but she has made the third round of the tournament before.

The British star reached that stage for the first time in 2024, and she was successful in her quest for the fourth round.

What is stopping Katie Boulter from staying in the WTA top 20?

“A fantastic player, was already in the top 20, and she has unfortunately – we have talked about it so many times on our podcast – unfortunately, she just has the yips.”

Boulter defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia in straight sets to reach the fourth round two years ago, to set up a match with Victoria Azarenka.

The two-time Grand Slam champion made light work of Boulter in the 2024 fourth round by dispatching the Brit in straight sets.
