Katie Boulter has started life under new coach Michael Joyce terrifically, particularly with her WTA title victory in Ostrava.

The British star tumbled down the rankings in 2025, which led to her split with long-time coach Biljana Veselinovic.

Boulter is loving life under Joyce, and her upturn in form has helped her reach World No. 65 in the rankings.

Ahead of the Miami Open, Boulter has opened up about what has surprised her most about her first few months with Joyce.

Katie Boulter says she’s been ‘surprised’ by her form

Boulter’s victory in Ostrava was backed up by a quarter-final appearance in Merida, as the British star looks to threaten Sonay Kartal and Emma Raducanu in the rankings.

Even Boulter has been surprised at how quickly her form has changed under coach Joyce, who previously worked with Maria Sharapova.

Asked by Luxury London how she is feeling about her start to the 2026 season, Boulter responded: “I obviously wanted to do more in Australia and felt like I was playing good stuff but, at the same time, I have to be realistic and understand that I’m just finding my feet.

“I’ve just got a new coach and we’re still working things out. I’m having to be patient, which isn’t my biggest virtue.

“In a way, I’m surprised I already did well in one of the tournaments [the Ostrava Open] because when you change coaches, you’re still very much walking on egg shells and working things out.”

Boulter continued her good form by reaching the second round of the Miami Open by defeating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

“I’m really pleased with the start of my season and feel like I’m building momentum again which is really important.”

The British star plays Clara Tauson in the second round of Miami, but she has already defended her ranking points from last season.

How Katie Boulter’s start to the season compares to 2025

Boulter has already collected 10 victories so far this season, following her first round win at the Miami Open.

The British star is already far and away in a better place than she managed at this stage of the 2025 season.

Sonay Kartal is now Britain’s best WTA player… do you agree? 🤔

Boulter’s first round exit at the 2025 Miami Open to Peyton Stearns saw her end the first third of the season with just four victories.

The British star has six more victories already, with potentially more to come as she progresses at the Masters event.

It’s clear that Boulter is hitting the form once again that saw her reach the top 30 of the WTA Tour rankings, and she will continue to soar throughout 2026.
