Karolina Muchova has reached the Wimbledon final for the first time after beating Coco Gauff.

Muchova has struggled against Gauff previously, having lost six of her seven previous matches against the American.

The Czech looked to be set for another loss against Gauff, but Muchova saved a match point to beat her opponent 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(10) in a dramatic encounter on Centre Court.

Despite her victory, Muchova did look in some physical discomfort at times during the match against Gauff and she was asked about this in her post-match interview.

Muchova was the 10th seed coming into Wimbledon this year having lost in the first round four years in a row at the grass court major before going all the way to the final in 2026.

When asked to give her initial reaction to reaching the Wimbledon final, Muchova admitted that she was shaking.

“It sounds really nice to be in a final!” said Muchova. “Honestly it was such a big fight, it was a rollercoaster. Up and down, in 10 seconds you had match point and then were match point down.

“There was no time to think but very nerve wracking. I don’t even know what I am saying, I am shaking. The atmosphere here was indescribable, thank you to everyone who came and supported us.”

Muchova was seen holding her side on various occasions during the match against Gauff, but she was insistent that this was nothing to worry about ahead of the Wimbledon final.

“I’m okay. I was just trying to catch a breath. I am good,” claimed Muchova.

Muchova was then asked about playing on Centre Court again, as she revealed that she had practiced on the court prior to the semi-final with her compatriot Linda Noskova, who she could play in the Wimbledon final.

“There is so many of us tennis players and I don’t think many of us get to play on this court,” said Muchova. “It’s such a history of our sport. It’s incredible, very special moment.

“We came with Linda [Noskova] to warm up before the semis and took a photo. It’s nice to experience all of this and this court is beautiful.”

What happened in Karolina Muchova’s only other Grand Slam final?

Although this is Muchova’s first Wimbledon final, it is not her first final at any Grand Slam tournament.

Muchova reached her first major final at Roland Garros in 2023, but she was unable to capture the title on that occasion.

Despite being up a break in the latter stages of the deciding set in this final, Muchova was ultimately beaten 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 by Iga Swiatek.

Muchova will be hoping to go one better at Wimbledon this year, as she awaits the winner of the match between Marta Kostyuk and Noskova.

The women’s singles final at Wimbledon will take place on Saturday, July 11.
