Joao Fonseca was an injury concern ahead of Roland Garros this year after suffering a wrist problem.
Fonseca withdrew from the Hamburg Open after revealing that he had been feeling ‘slight discomfort’ in his right wrist.
Injuries like this have been a big issue in tennis recently, including for Carlos Alcaraz, who withdrew from both Roland Garros and Wimbledon due to a wrist issue.
With just days to go until his first round match at Roland Garros this year, Fonseca has provided an update on his injury.

Joao Fonseca claims his wrist injury was ‘nothing that serious’
Fonseca spoke to media in his pre-tournament press conference, where he was unsurprisingly asked about his wrist injury.
The Brazilian teenager provided reassurance about his injury, with Fonseca claiming that it was ‘nothing that serious to worry about’ and he was just being cautious.
“Feeling much better. I mean, it was nothing that serious to worry about it,” answered Fonseca.
“We were just like, of course, focusing on French Open and, I mean, with the French Open coming, we just wanted to rest a little bit, focus on full recovery, and, yeah, I’m already practising 100%, feeling good in court, and, you know, excited to play here again.”
Fonseca lost in the third round of Roland Garros on his debut last year and he will be hoping to go even further in 2026 as the 28th seed.
