Jo Durie shares her five tennis fundamentals

You must be fast, have an explosive first step, commit to chasing every ball, ensure the ball is struck consistently and make good tactical decisions.

Those are the five features that former world No.5 Jo Durie and her coach and mentor Alan Jones believe any aspiring tennis player must master if they are to make it as a professional.

The British No.1 from 1982 to 1995, who reached her career high ranking in 1984, was guest of honour during a two-day visit to the Cavill Academy, part of the Milton Keynes-based Tennis Works organisation, over the weekend.

And with Jones, a former national coach who traveled with Durie and Jeremy Bates for fifteen years, she delivered a three-hour coaching masterclass to over 30 coaches at the Tennis Works Coaches Forum.
