Jenson Brooksby clinches Next Gen Finals berth after latest Antwerp win

American star Jenson Brooksby has claimed a place in the upcoming Next Gen Finals after his impressive run at the Antwerp Open.

The 20-year-old secured his spot by reaching the semi-finals in Antwerp with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over talented Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Friday.

The teenager from California has now reached last four for the third time this season and is currently enjoying a career-best ranking of 70.

Brooksby has already enjoyed a breakthrough year on the ATP Tour after taking a set off Novak Djokovic in the fourth round at the US Open, and has made a remarkable rise up the rankings after finishing 2020 outside the top 300.

Eight men will compete at the popular Next Gen Finals, which has welcomed the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev and Jannik Sinner since the inaugural edition in 2017.

The event is scheduled to be held from Nov 9 – 13 in Milan after being cancelled a year ago due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Four players alongside Brooksby have already secured their ATP Finals berth, including Sinner, Felix Auger Aliassime, Carlos Alcaraz and Sebastian Korda.

The American star will bid to reach his second tour level final of his career as he takes on Diego Schwartzman on Saturday, with his only previous final ending in defeat against Kevin Anderson in Newport in July.

Should he defeat the Argentine, he will have another chance to lift his first ATP title of his career ahead of the prestigious Milan event.
