A member of Jannik Sinner’s coaching team has announced a key decision in his career on social media.

Simone Vagnozzi has been the coach of Jannik Sinner since 2022, working alongside legendary figure Darren Cahill.

Most recently, Vagnozzi oversaw Sinner’s run to the US Open final, where the Italian lost to Carlos Alcaraz in four sets.

Vagnozzi, a former professional player, revealed he has taken an important step in his career in a message posted on Thursday.

In the message, Vagnozzi said he has made the decision with a ‘heavy heart.’

Simone Vagnozzi leaves his role at the Maggioni Tennis Team Academy

On Instagram, Vagnozzi revealed he has stepped away from his role at the Maggioni Tennis Team Academy as he can no longer manage his work at the institution in good faith while dealing with his professional commitments.

The academy, based out of Circolo Tennis Maggioni in San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy, had been working in collaboration with Vagnozzi.

In a post translated from Italian, Vagnozzi said: “After a long reflection, I’ve decided to leave my role in the Maggioni Tennis Team Academy, and I’m doing it with a heavy heart.

“Unfortunately, with my professional commitments getting more and more intense, I can no longer guarantee the quality and attention that this project requires. I am incredibly proud of what we have built in these years with President Afro Zoboletti.

“The esteem and respect I have for him will never change.

“Now I leave the best man to all the staff. I know they will do an outstanding job and that our guys are in excellent hands. Best of luck to the team and all the athletes.

I’ll always be there for the circle [Circolo]. This is not goodbye, but see you later.

“Heartfelt thanks to everyone!”

Jannik Sinner’s success under Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi

It is not an understatement to say that Jannik Sinner’s time working with Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi has been a resounding success.

Since beginning his collaboration with the pair in 2022, Sinner has won four Grand Slam titles, most recently at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.

Darren Cahill had been expected to leave Sinner’s coaching team at the end of 2025. However, Cahill could be set to stay on after the 2025 season.

After the Wimbledon final in July, Sinner told reporters: “We had a bet before the final.

“If you win tomorrow, you can decide whether or not I stay. Now the choice is mine.

“I’ve always looked for a person who is honest, a person who gives me a lot, not necessarily only on the tennis court, but [about] how to live.”
