Jannik Sinner has been warned not to overhaul his game after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open final.

Rick Macci says Jannik Sinner does not need to change anything after loss to Carlos Alcaraz

Legendary tennis coach Rick Macci knows a thing or two about the upper echelons of tennis, and he’s shared some advice for Sinner.

The coach, who trained five number-one ranked players: Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, and Venus Williams, is unsure about Sinner’s plan to overhaul his game.

“Sinner does not have to change anything,” wrote Macci on social media following the Italian’s setback in New York.

“He is so dominant and special off the ground and between the ears,” explained the experienced tennis coach.

However, he did concede that both men will likely change their games before they collide on the court again.

“Both will modify, tweak, and fine tune and they both are on another planet and over the moon,” said Macci.

Sinner is expected to be back in action on the Asian leg of the ATP Tour, which begins with the Japan Open on September 24.

Jannik Sinner outlines his plan following the US Open

Sinner has highlighted several parts of his game that he believes he needs to change if he’s going to challenge Alcaraz in the future.

The Italian highlighted his lack of drop shots and serve and volley as something he wants to implement into his game.

“We’re definitely gonna work on that,” explained Sinner at the 2025 US Open final press conference. “I’m trying to be more prepared for the next match when I will play against him.”

“I’m gonna aim to, maybe even lose some matches from now on, but trying to do some changes,” added the former World No. 1. “To be a bit more unpredictable as a player.”

Sinner dropped to the World No. 2 spot for the first time in over 60 weeks as a result of his loss to Alcaraz.
