Jannik Sinner US Open 2019 forehand

Jannik Sinner, the one to watch in 2020, joins Djokovic, Nadal and Murray on list of greats

Jannik Sinner is a young Italian player making big waves in the game and now he’s joined an illustrious list of the greatest ever young players

Jannik Sinner has joined Rafa Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray in becoming only the 13th player in history to be ranked in the top 80 of the ATP Rankings whilst still being under 18 years of age.

Technically ‘under 18’ in tennis actually means you are 18 years old or younger, but that’s not the point here! Jannik Sinner has achieved his career high end of year ATP ranking of 78 and is still only 18 years old. The Italian ‘Next Gen’ champion joins Rafa Nadal, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Dennis Shapovalov as the thirteenth ever player to achieve this.

The full historical list is:

1990 – Michael Chang/Fabrice Santoro

1992 – Andrei Medvedev/ThomasEnqvist

1996 – Dominic Hrbaty

1998 – Marat Safin

1999 – Lleyton Hewitt/Roger Federer

2003 – Rafael Nadal (17) 49

2004 – Rafael Nadal (18) 51

2005 – Andy Murray (18) 64

2005 – Novak Djokovic (18) 78

2017 – Denis Shapovalov (18) 51

2019 – Jannik Sinner (18) 78
