Jannik Sinner enters Wimbledon this year with a new sensation, having arrived as the defending champion.

Sinner won Wimbledon for the first time in his career in 2025, lifting the trophy after a 4–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–4 victory over Carlos Alcaraz.

The ATP number one has now looked back on that memorable success ahead of this year’s event, where he is the top seed.

Sinner starts out against Miomir Kecmanovic in round one, and will make Wimbledon history by being the first Italian to play the opening match at Centre Court.

Jannik Sinner suggests his feelings if he never wins Wimbledon again

Ahead of that match, Sinner has recalled for the tournament on its YouTube channel: “When I was a little kid, I never would have thought to play here at Wimbledon.

“But I had last year there only positive memories. Every year is different, every year is a big, big challenge ahead.

“You also need to enjoy moments, and this (winning Wimbledon) is definitely a very enjoyable moment.

“I do remember the last point, how it was, and seeing also my family right there and my whole team and my brother. It is definitely something I would love to feel again.

“At the same time, if it’s not going to happen, I did it once and I will remember it for the rest of my life.

“And now, having at least one trophy and seeing my name here next to all these incredible names, it is something truly special.

“After Paris, I needed some time off. I’ve had an incredible season until now, but not winning any Grand Slams, it is a different feeling.

“I have my dreams and I know that if I work very hard that I can achieve these dreams, but at the same time it is a very unpredictable sport, and you never know what’s going to happen.

“If you have a wrong day, there is an early exit coming very soon, so we go day by day.

“Being here again back in London, it feels amazing. This is the most special tournament we have throughout the whole year. I’m looking forward to it.

“I think it’s all about confidence with this court and hopefully I can get some confidence from last year, and then we’ll see how it goes.”

Jannik Sinner has a great chance of defending his Wimbledon title

It has been a very disappointing Grand Slam season for the world number one considering his very high standards.

The Italian suffered a surprise defeat to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the Australian Open, before a shock loss to Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second round of the French Open.

In stark contrast, he reached all four Grand Slam finals in 2025, winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon, as well as losing the French Open and US Open.

Despite his shortcomings this time around, another Wimbledon success is very much on the cards for Sinner.

He should have plenty of confidence as the defending champion, while most notably his main rival Alcaraz is missing Wimbledon because of a wrist injury.

The 24-year-old has also been working hard behind the scenes, with Sinner testing his body in different conditions after his issues in the French Open heat.
