Jannik Sinner has made tennis history in Rome.
On Thursday afternoon, Sinner advanced to the Italian Open semi-finals after beating Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-4 in the Foro Italico.
By doing so, Sinner has now won a record 32 consecutive Masters 1000 matches, eclipsing Novak Djokovic’s previous record high of 31.
Could a combination of Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Joao Fonseca, and Alex de Minaur beat Jannik Sinner?
He's just too good!
The last player to defeat Sinner at the Masters 1000 level was Tallon Griekspoor at the 2025 Shanghai Masters.
Sinner, who will face Martin Landaluce or Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals, has reacted to his historic achievement.

“It’s tough to say [how much it means to me.] I don’t play for records,” Sinner told Sky Sports while discussing his historic feat.

“I play just for my own story. At the same time it means a lot to me, but tomorrow is another opponent. We’re gonna play in different conditions. It’s gonna be a night match. Let’s see.
“Now the highest priority for me is trying to recover as much as I can physically. We’ll see how it goes.

Where can Sinner improve?
Despite the victory, Sinner was not at his best against the Russian on Thursday.
The Italian is regarded as one of the best servers on the ATP Tour, yet he landed only 49 per cent of his first serves against Andrey Rublev.
This figure is his lowest since losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the 2025 US Open final – a match that was played in September.

Sinner will hope to improve his serve when he plays Martin Landaluce or Daniil Medvedev in the Italian Open semi-finals.
Medvedev, the 2023 Italian Open champion, defeated Thiago Tirante in his fourth round contest on Wednesday.
Landaluce, meanwhile, has become the first lucky loser to reach the Italian Open quarter-finals since Lucas Pouille in 2016.
