Jannik Sinner defeated Andrey Rublev, 6-2, 6-4, in the quarter-finals of the Italian Open.

The Italian has now won 32 consecutive matches at the Masters 1000 level, a streak that has seen Sinner collect titles in Paris, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, and Madrid.

Could a combination of Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Joao Fonseca, and Alex de Minaur beat Jannik Sinner?

He's just too good!

Picking up win number 32 in Rome, Sinner broke one of Novak Djokovic’s longest-standing records.

Nobody was able to match Djokovic’s record of 31 consecutive wins until Sinner picked up his 31st straight win 15 years later, at the Italian Open.

Now, following his win over Rublev, Sinner has the record all to himself.

Jannik Sinner’s Masters 1000 unbeaten streak

Sinner has proven to be unbeatable in Masters 1000 events, but just how long will the procession last?

Jannik Sinner is expected to reach 34 consecutive Masters 1000 wins in Rome

When his closest rival, Carlos Alcaraz, withdrew from the Italian Open, Sinner’s chances of winning the title improved tenfold.

Then, when Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic suffered early exits, it became clear it would take something special to stop Sinner from lifting the title.

Sinner is just two wins away from the title and will walk onto the court as a heavy favourite for both his semi-final match and a potential final.

The Italian will meet either Daniil Medvedev or Martin Landaluce in the semi-finals.

Sinner has a 9-7 winning head-to-head record against Medvedev, but more importantly, he has won nine of their last 10 matches.

And while he has never met Landaluce on tour, he is ranked 93 places above him, and would be expected to make light work of the young Spaniard.

So, unless something extraordinary happens, that should be win number 33 wrapped up.

But who would he meet searching for a 34th consecutive Masters 1000 win?

Luciano Darderi or Casper Ruud would await him in the final.

Sinner is a combined 5-0 against Ruud and Darderi, and has yet to drop a set against either player.

With those numbers in mind, it’s hard to imagine the Norwegian or the Italian stopping Sinner from extending his winning streak to 34.

He won’t want to get ahead of himself, though, and will first turn his attention to the semi-finals.

Sinner will play Medvedev or Landaluce in the Italian Open semi-finals on Friday, May 15.
