Jannik Sinner is back in the Wimbledon semi-finals after battling past Jan-Lennard Struff and the blazing heat.

Sinner really struggled in the intense heat at the French Open in Paris earlier this year, where he fell in the second round.

But he is now just one match away from the Wimbledon final after a commanding display against Struff, who he beat in straight sets.

Court 1 played host to the quarter-final, where the Italian beat his German rival 7-5, 7-6(7-4), 6-3 after two hours and 35 minutes.

ATP number one Sinner has since provided a fitness update from London, where temperatures are currently above 30 degrees Celsius.

Sinner was tasked with discussing the heat in his on-court interview, saying on the BBC’s Wimbledon coverage: “Thanks for reminding me!

“We worked a lot after Paris, trying to understand what went wrong there and we prepared ourselves in the best possible way.

“It was a huge test today but I felt really comfortable on the physical side today so it’s a good step forward.

“But even in the same time, if it happened again like in Paris, we know that we need to change a couple of things again.

“But I am very happy to be back in the semis.”

The top seed will now rest and recover before his semifinal against either third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime or seventh seed Novak Djokovic.

Jannik Sinner delighted after passing ‘very tough’ Wimbledon test

Of course, Sinner was taking nothing for granted against Struff, who certainly didn’t make things easy for the defending champion.

And the Italian made that very clear after their battle, saying of the German: “First of all it was a tough player to play against but he deserves everything he has done and achieved in his career.

“He is a great person off the court with an amazing team.

“In the beginning I felt he started better than me. I was struggling a little bit but then I got into the match and started to serve a bit better.

“I was break up in the second set, I could not use it, but tried to stay there mentally. And now I’m back in the semi-finals.

“Second set could have ended in a different way, tiebreaks are always 50/50. So if you are one set all or two sets up, it makes a big difference.

“In the third set I was relaxed and his first serve percentage dropped a little bit which helped me, so happy to finish in three sets, he is a very tough player to play against.”

Ranked 74th in the world, Struff can be extremely proud of his run to the quarter-finals of the grass-court Grand Slam.

Before falling to Sinner, he knocked out Sebastian Baez and Hubert Hurkacz, along with seeded duo Brandon Nakashima and Daniil Medvedev.

But it is another test passed for the world number one, who has now won four successive matches without dropping a set.
