Jannik Sinner achieves feat last completed by Novak Djokovic a decade ago after reaching Vienna final

Jannik Sinner advanced to the Vienna Open final on Saturday after defeating Alex de Minaur in straight sets.

The Italian’s dominance against the Australian continued: de Minaur has failed to defeat Sinner once in 12 meetings.

Sinner, who won 6-3, 6-4, will play either Lorenzo Musetti or Alexander Zverev in the Vienna Open final.

Sinner, who recently won the Six Kings Slam, will hope to capture a fourth ATP Tour title of 2025 on Sunday, following successes at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the China Open.

Jannik Sinner has reached eight or more ATP Tour finals in consecutive years

In 2024, Sinner reached the final of nine ATP Tour events: the Australian Open, Rotterdam Open, Miami Open, Terra Wortmann Open, Cincinnati Open, US Open, China Open, Shanghai Masters and ATP Finals.

So far in 2025, Sinner has made the final of eight tournaments: the Australian Open, Italian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, Cincinnati Open, US Open, China Open and Vienna Open.

As per Mario Boccardi, Sinner is the first player to have reached eight or more ATP Tour singles finals in consecutive years since Novak Djokovic, who achieved the feat across 2015 and 2016.

In 2015, Djokovic recorded a historic season on the ATP Tour, winning 11 tournaments – including three Grand Slam titles.

Djokovic also made the final of four other tournaments in 2015.

In 2016, Djokovic reached the final of 11 tournaments, winning seven. During this year, he captured the Australian Open and French Open titles, while losing in the US Open final.

Sinner’s performance against de Minaur

Sinner continued his dominance against de Minaur, following victories against Daniel Altmaier, Flavio Cobolli and Alexander Bublik.

As per Sofascore, Sinner won 74 per cent of his first serve points, while limiting de Minaur to just 52 per cent.

The 24-year-old also broke de Minaur’s serve four times, served four aces and won 11 more points on his serve than de Minaur.

Following the Vienna Open final, Sinner will travel to Paris for the final Masters tournament of 2025. The Italian will face either Zizou Bergs or Alex Michelsen in the second round.
