Jamie Murray predicts if Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will play until 38 just like Novak Djokovic has done

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz’s dominance on the ATP Tour has seen them break several records already in their young careers.

Sinner and Alcaraz have beaten all challengers as they have shared the last nine Grand Slam titles, dating back to the 2023 US Open.

The pair have started the year by winning all the majors so far, with Alcaraz claiming the Australian Open and Sinner earning the first three Masters titles of the year.

Both Sinner and Alcaraz have been touted to eclipse Novak Djokovic’s Grand Slam record, but Jamie Murray believes one thing could stand in their way.

Jamie Murray discusses Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s longevity

Murray appeared on Greg Rusedski’s podcast and talk quickly turned towards the best two players in the world currently.

The recently retired star believes comparisons between Sinner and Alcaraz and the ‘Big Three’ are wide of the mark so early in their careers.

On Off-Court with Greg, Murray said: “I would never say who is better or not, but until those guys [Alcaraz and Sinner] get up to 18, 19, 20 Grand Slams, it’s tough to say that those other guys [Big 4] weren’t the greatest.

“They’ve got the numbers to back it up. Is there a good chance they’ll catch them? Right now you have to say it is, but know, Alcaraz has seven right now. So he’s still 17 away from Novak.

“People think, oh yeah, but he can win three a year for the next, you know, five years. But that’s not easy to do that!”

Murray believes injuries could still derail their chances of reaching Djokovic’s incredible tally of 24 Grand Slams.

“There’s also players that we don’t know about that are going to come through and challenge those guys and you’ve got to stay fit and healthy and motivated. There’s so much that goes into it.

“I personally will be surprised if those guys play until they are 38, 39, 40. I don’t think they will do because of the nature of the tour now, but we’ll see.”

Alcaraz has recently been hit by injury, while Sinner has shown signs of fatigue already in his early career.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s head-to-head record with Novak Djokovic

Sinner and Alcaraz’s emergence on the ATP Tour might have stopped Djokovic claiming any more Grand Slam titles, but he still holds an impressive record against both men.

Djokovic and Alcaraz are currently locked together on five wins apiece from their first 10 matches on the ATP Tour.

That includes one of Djokovic’s best-ever victories, which came in the final of the Paris Olympics back in 2024.

The Serbian stunned Alcaraz in straight sets to claim the first Olympic gold medal of his glittering career and ensure that he ends his career with every major title possible.

Sinner, meanwhile, holds a slightly better record against Djokovic, having won 6 of their 11 matches.

Before Djokovic’s brilliant victory against Sinner at the 2025 Australian Open, the Italian had beaten the Serbian in five straight matches.

Most of Djokovic’s wins over Sinner came at the beginning of the Italian’s career, with two coming at Wimbledon in 2022 and 2023.
