Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s duopoly on the ATP Tour has seen them win the last nine Grand Slams available.
That dates back to the 2023 US Open, when Novak Djokovic lifted the trophy at the expense of Daniil Medvedev.
Alcaraz and Sinner’s rivalry has continued into 2026, with the Spaniard winning the Australian Open and the Italian claiming the Sunshine Double and the Monte-Carlo Masters.
While Alcaraz and Sinner’s domination on the ATP Tour continues, a former professional believes the chasing pack should be doing more.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s challengers questioned
Every tournament entered by Sinner or Alcaraz has been won by one of the men, up until this week’s Barcelona Open, which saw the Spaniard withdraw through injury.
Former world number three Sergi Bruguera has been impressed with Sinner and Alcaraz, but he believes the chasing pack are not doing enough to challenge them.
Should Carlos Alcaraz have skipped the Barcelona Open? Did he make a mistake by playing it?
“When there was Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic, it was already something extraordinary,” he said in an interview with Punto de Break.
“I thought there would be a lot of equality afterward, many players who could win Grand Slams. Now, for two years, they win everything; they are way ahead of the rest. We lack two or three players in that second tier who can compete with them.
“A Wawrinka, a Murray, a Del Potro… were people who could win a Grand Slam, but now there is none of this profile. There are people who lack ambition, who are already doing very well within the top ten or fifteen.
“When they are in good form during the week, they reach finals or win an ATP 500, and that’s enough for them.
“I am not in their minds, but it does seem like they have that attitude, not many are willing to strive to reach that higher level that would make them compete with Sinner and Alcaraz.”
Alexander Zverev, who is the current world number three, has lost his last 11 matches to Sinner and Alcaraz.
Sergi Bruguera names potential Grand Slam winner to upset Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner
While Bruguera was critical of many of the players at the top of the ATP Tour, he did have good things to say about Zverev.
Asked who the next Grand Slam champion outside of Sinner and Alcaraz would be, he replied: “I have always thought of Alexander Zverev.
Should Carlos Alcaraz hire another coach after his recent results?
If so, who should he hire? 🤔
“He is the only one who has always worked hard, with the ambition to win Grand Slams, he has been close several times.
“He has reached three finals, in Roland Garros he was a break up against Carlos in the fifth set, but he always lacked that little something. For me, he is the only one who, when facing them, always wanted to compete.”
Zverev has lost three Grand Slam finals in his career, the latter two of which have come against Sinner or Alcaraz.
