Jannik Sinner is on top of the tennis world once again.

The 24-year-old has successfully defended his Wimbledon title, becoming only the 10th man in the Open Era to do so.

Sinner was simply dominant throughout the latter stages of the Grand Slam event, defeating Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev en route to the title.

In Sunday’s final against Zverev, the Italian struck 15 aces and 58 total winners.

Sinner has left the tennis community well and truly in awe of his ability – as conveyed by Jamie Murray.

Jamie Murray says Jannik Sinner is ‘so good’ at maintaining a high level of play during matches

“Sascha came out firing, like he was going for it,” Murray, a seven-time Grand Slam doubles champion, stated while on punditry duties for the BBC on Sunday evening.

“He had an average forehand speed of 86mph which was way above his norm. He took it to him and it’s not easy for him to go out there and play a completely different game style from what he’s used to.”

Zverev played an exceptional brand of tennis during Sunday’s final, displaying a level of aggression in his play that has been rarely witnessed in the past.

The German looked to dictate the play throughout – attempting to prevent Sinner from running away with the contest.

However, Zverev’s efforts were ultimately in vain.

“I’m happy for him that he knew that he had to do something different,” Murray continued. “Because he’s 0-9 going into this match and he needed something to kind of believe in and go after, and for two sets, he largely did that.”

Murray went on to praise Sinner, pointing to the Italian’s consistency as a key factor behind his success.

“Sinner, he’s so good at maintaining that level,” the Scotsman stated. “They’re never really any drops.

“Alcaraz maybe – everyone’s comparing him [Sinner] to him – is maybe a bit more like this.

“Sinner… it’s so incredible to be able to function at that high level for so long.”

Jannik Sinner’s next ATP event

After winning Wimbledon, Sinner will now shift his attention to the North American hard-court swing.

The 24-year-old’s first event is set to be the Canadian Open, which begins on August 1.

Sinner won his first ever Masters 1000 title at the 2023 Canadian Open, defeating Australian Alex de Minaur in the final.

Sinner will also likely compete in the Cincinnati Open this season. The Italian reached the final of last year’s event, before retiring against Carlos Alcaraz due to illness.

The calendar will then move to New York for the final Grand Slam of the year.
