Jack Draper replaces ‘idol’ Andy Murray as British number three
Jack Draper has overtaken Andy Murray in the world rankings to become the British number 3
Draper achieved a career high ranking of 45, leapfrogging former world number one Murray in the process. The latter now falls to number 49 in the world.
Draper, who recently lost out to world number one Carlos Alcaraz in three close sets in Basel, is now only behind Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans in the British rankings.
He has enjoyed a breakthrough season, having won four Challenger titles while also reaching his first semi-final on the ATP Tour. That was achieved at Eastbourne in June.
The best victory of his career so far came at the US Open where he shocked Felix Auger Aliassime in the second round, defeating the Canadian in straight sets.
Jack Draper started the year ranked world number 265 and has since made his debut inside the top 100 and now the top 50. Norrie is ranked number 13 after moving ahead of Matteo Berrettini while Evans remains world number 26.
The top ten in the world remain the same except for Taylor Fritz and Auger-Aliassime switching positions. Fritz is now 10th and Auger-Aliassime is 9th after just winning the European Open on Sunday.
Lorenzo Musetti has reached a high of world number 22 after winning the Naples Open while Hoger Rune continues his rise. Rune is now 24th in the rankings after his victory in Stockholm over fifth-ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.
The rankings are sure to change once again after the end of this week with the conclusion of two important ATP 500s in Basel and Vienna.
