‘I’ve seen him play better’ – Stefanos Tsitsipas issues honest assessment of 3 time Slam winner’s form

Stefanos Tsitsipas practised in Monte Carlo with an injury blighted former World number three then followed up with a brutally honest analysis of his opponents level

Stefanos Tsitsipas doesn’t think “anyone should be judging” Stan Wawrinka based on just one practise session together, but having played before with the Swiss former French Open champion he has “seen him definitely play better”.

Unfortunately Wawrinka then went on to lose his first round Monte Carlo Masters match against the talented Alexander Bublik but after the match the Swiss struck a positive tone saying,

“It was a way better match. I think the body’s getting much better.

“I’m still far away from where I want to be, but I think I’m [moving in] the right direction.

“I think today was a positive match. It was a tough loss, of course, but I’m happy with the way I was playing today.

Tsitsipas was speaking in his pre-tournament press conference when he was asked about his practise session with Stan Wawrinka.

“I have seen him definitely play better. Having practiced with him in the past, he can play good tennis, Stan. On his best days, he’s someone that can step on the court and do a lot of good things out there from everywhere around the court.

“But honestly, I feel like I have seen him better in the past, but I don’t think anyone should be judging based on that, because he’s just right off his surgery and you cannot be playing at 100% straightaway. It’s not really possible, to be honest with you.”
