Alexander Zverev fell just short of winning his first Wimbledon title.
The German, who captured his first major title in Paris last month, defeated Taylor Fritz and British wildcard Arthur Fery en route to the final in south-west London.
Jannik Sinner stopped Zverev in his tracks, triumphing 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 in Sunday’s final.
How many Wimbledon titles will Jannik Sinner retire with?
He's a two-time champion! Roger Federer holds the men's singles record with eight…
Zverev’s record against Sinner does not paint a pretty picture: the German has now lost 10 consecutive matches against the Italian, dating back to the 2024 Cincinnati Open.
Something needs to change for Zverev; otherwise he will continue to fall short against the world number one.
Alexander Zverev needs to improve the consistency of his increased aggressive play
With the Grand Slam burden finally lifted off Alexander Zverev’s shoulders, tennis fans were able to witness the German in full flight throughout Wimbledon.
The 29-year-old played with a new level of aggression, looking to dictate play off both wings.
Zverev’s aggression on his forehand was particularly impressive throughout the fortnight in London.
The majority of Zverev’s career has consisted of passive forehand play – utilising the shot as a rally ball, rather than a groundstroke that can dictate the pace of play.

That all changed at Wimbledon, as Zverev finally unleashed his forehand and struck the groundstroke with a new conviction.
However, to take his game to the next level, Zverev will need to manage this aggression to greater effect.
Despite the renewed aggression, Zverev struck only the third most winners in the Wimbledon Men’s Singles event, behind Jannik Sinner and quarter-finalist Jan-Lennard Struff.
Most winners in the 2026 Wimbledon Men’s Singles event
- Jannik Sinner – 323
- Jan-Lennard Struff – 304
- Alexander Zverev – 285
- Felix Auger-Aliassime – 245
- Novak Djokovic – 220
The German also struck too many errors during the final against Sinner.
Sinner, now a five-time major champion, led Zverev in both the winners and unforced errors categories during Sunday’s final.
Zverev struck 45 unforced errors to Sinner’s 28, and 44 winners to the Italian’s 58.
Simply put, Zverev needs to control the aggressive play a little more; by ironing out the inconsistencies that remain in his game.
Who do you think is more likely to win another Grand Slam out of Novak Djokovic & Alexander Zverev? 🤔
