Brit Andy Murray and Roger Federer have ousted Ivan Ljubicic and Fernando Verdasco respectively to set up a semi-final meeting at the BNP Paribas Open while in the women’s event world No.42 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Serb Ana Ivanovic are both through to the final four.

Murray, who has not dropped a set this fortnight, will play in the semi-finals for the second time at the Indian Wells tennis gardens as he overcame the unseeded Croat Ivan Ljubicic 7-5, 7-6.

Murray’s semi-final opponent and three-time former champion Roger Federer overcame world No.10 Verdasco 6-3, 7-6.

Federer came through a blip in the second set, when he hit three bad shots in a row to allow Verdasco to break his service and take a 6-5 lead.

However the Swiss favourite came back to break Verdasco in the following game due to some fatal errors from the Spaniard.

The other quarter-finals will see world No.1 Rafael Nadal take on world No.7 Juan Martin del Potro and Serb Novak Djokovic play Andy Roddick on Friday.

The women’s event only saw one live quarter-final on Thursday as world No.5 Ana Ivanovic’s opponent Sybille Bammer withdrew with a shoulder injury.

The other quarter-final witnessed the 17 year-old rising star Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova take out another seed, Agnieszka Radwanska (No.7), 7-6, 6-4.
