Andy Murray US Open 2021 - tough Indian Wells draw

ATP Indian Wells draw: Andy Murray, Alexander Zverev, and Matteo Berrettini in same quarter

Andy Murray has been drawn in the same quarter as Alexander Zverev and Matteo Berrettini at Indian Wells as his rotten run of luck continued.

The former world number one is playing Indian Wells for the first time since 2017 as he attempts to claw his way back up the rankings after a nightmare few years with injury.

He is not being helped by some incredibly tough draws, though, and this one is no different.

The Scotsman will face Adrian Mannarino in the first round, but will then run into teenage Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz in the second round should he win it.

Zverev is then his likeliest opponent in round three, with Berrettini and Jannik Sinner also in his quarter.

World number one Daniil Medvedev, meanwhile, will be happy with his section.

The Russian, who won his maiden major at the US Open last month, has Hubert Hurkacz, Grigor Dimitrov, and Denis Shapovalov in his quarter but he won’t be anticipating too many problems.

Medvedev’s compatriot Andrey Rublev is a potential semi-final opponent, although his quarter is particularly tough to call.

In-form Casper Ruud is in it, as are the awkward quintet of Lloyd Harris, Roberto Bautista Agut, Cam Norrie, Dan Evans, and Diego Scwartzman.

Second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, meanhile, has a relatively kind section with Felix Auger-Aliassime a potential quarter-final opponent.
