Iga Swiatek and Wim Fissette went their separate ways recently.
The Pole and Belgian won Wimbledon together last year, but results worsened in 2026.
After the six-time Grand Slam champion lost to Magda Linette in her second-round match at the Miami Open, Swiatek split from Fissette.
Does Iga Swiatek now win the French Open after changing coaches? 🤔
Let us know your reasoning in the comments ⬇️
But who will she hire as his replacement? Swiatek’s junior coach, Artur Szostaczko, has a suggestion…
Iga Swiatek’s former coach names Francisco Roig as a potential Wim Fissette replacement
During an interview with Interia Sport, Szostaczko was asked to name a suitable replacement for Fissette.
“Someone from [Rafael] Nadal’s coaching team will come,” he said.
“Since Nadal is her idol, it makes sense.
“He could be her mentor, and his former coach, Francisco Roig, could work with Iga [Swiatek] on a permanent basis.”

Roig departed Emma Raducanu’s coaching team not long ago.
He’s since teamed up with the towering Frenchman, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, but could well be convinced to jump ship.
After all, the prospect of coaching a six-time Grand Slam champion doesn’t come along very often!
Francisco Roig’s coaching credentials
- Key member of Rafael Nadal’s team throughout his career
- Worked with Matteo Berrettini (2023-2024)
- Worked with Emma Raducanu (2025-2026)
- Working with Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (2026)
Szostaczko noted Swiatek’s idolisation of Nadal, something she’s mentioned on several occasions.

Interestingly enough, Swiatek will train at the Rafael Nadal Academy on clay this year.
Perhaps Swiatek will finalise her coaching plans while training in Mallorca…
Szostaczko thinks Roig could be a good option for Swiatek, although he is confident her real problem lies with another member of the team, Daria Abramowicz.
The world number three’s former coach believes Abramowicz, Swiatek’s psychologist, should step down.
“Both [Tomasz] Wiktorowski and [Wim] Fissette corrected certain things for Iga, but as soon as they left, Daria [Abramowicz] would tell Iga, ‘Play it your way,’ and she did just that,” he said.
“She should resign, but she won’t. She’s untouchable.”
It remains to be seen what Swiatek will choose to do, and who she will hire/fire, but it will certainly be worth keeping an eye on over the coming weeks.
Iga Swiatek will drop to world number four after the Miami Open
After a tricky period during her 2025 season, Swiatek recovered well and returned to number two in the world.
Unfortunately for the Pole, she’s heading in the wrong direction once again and will slip to number four when the next set of rankings are released.

What’s even more worrying for Swiatek is that she sits 11th in the WTA Race.
As things stand, she would fail to qualify for the WTA Finals for the first time since 2019.
There is, of course, plenty of tennis to be played between now and November, but you can understand why Swiatek felt it was time to make a change.
Luckily for Swiatek, the tennis world is now moving over to clay, her favourite surface.
And, having underperformed, by her standards, on clay in 2025, the 24-year-old will have the chance to jump up the rankings this year.
Iga Swiatek on clay in 2025
- Stuttgart Open – Lost in QF to Jelena Ostapenko (108 points)
- Madrid Open – Lost in SF to Coco Gauff (390 points)
- Italian Open – Lost in 3R to Danielle Collins (65 points)
- French Open – Lost in SF to Aryna Sabalenka (780 points)
- Total – 0 titles (1,343 points)
Swiatek has just 1,343 points to defend this year.
In a good year, take 2024, for example, Swiatek can earn over 4,000 points on the clay.

The question is, will we see 2024 Swiatek or 2025 Swiatek this time around…
Only time will tell!
Swiatek is scheduled to begin her clay-court campaign at the Stuttgart Open, which starts on Monday, April 13.
