Iga Swiatek split from Wim Fissette after losing to Magda Linette in the second round of the Miami Open.

The Pole could only persevere with Fissette for so long, as she continued to falter at WTA events.

24-year-old Swiatek has yet to reach a singles final in 2026, slipping to third in the world rankings as a result.

During Tennis Channel’s coverage of the Miami Open, Swiatek’s rival, Danielle Collins, gave her verdict on the split.

Danielle Collins praises Iga Swiatek for making a ‘smart’ decision with coach split

“I think at this point, with the results that she’s had, it makes sense trying to switch things up and looking to go into a different direction,” said Collins.

Iga Swiatek’s record with Wim Fissette as her coach (Singles matches only)

“I think it’s to be expected; there’s no player who works with the same exact coach, really, throughout their entire career.

“You learn by working with other people, and you get different perspectives.

“If you just work with one person your whole life, you’re not going to get the same type of evolvement.

“I think it’s smart on her end.”

Former world number five, Jimmy Arias, was also keen to weigh in on Swiatek’s split from Fissette.

“Outside of that [Wimbledon title], they haven’t had as much success as she is accustomed to,” he said.

“And in general, when a player starts losing, it’s almost always the coach’s fault.

“In this case, it’s time to move on to somebody else.

“She did say ‘I feel lost on the court’, when you are feeling lost, you do have to search for some answers and maybe hear a different voice.”

“At the end of the day, you’ve got to point the finger somewhere, right?” added Collins.

Swiatek and Fissette’s coaching relationship yielded four titles, but it was probably time to part ways.

The six-time Grand Slam champion currently sits 11th in the Live WTA Race, outside of the WTA Finals qualification places.

She’ll be hoping that Fissette’s replacement can guide her back into the top-eight by the end of the year…

When will Iga Swiatek return to tennis?

Swiatek, a specialist on the surface, will begin her clay-court campaign in Stuttgart next month.

Competing as the number-three seed, Swiatek will be joined by the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and Coco Gauff.

The Pole is a former two-time champion at the event, winning titles in 2022 and 2023.

Can she win a third title in 2026? Only time will tell.

The 2026 Stuttgart Open begins on Monday, April 6.
