Iga Swiatek will hope to bounce back at the Wuhan Open after a disappointing loss to Emma Navarro in Beijing.

Navarro stunned Swiatek, who hit an astonishing 70 unforced errors during the three-set contest.

Consequently, the Pole now has a losing record against American players in 2025.

However, Swiatek’s season has been positive on the whole: she has secured titles at Wimbledon and the Korea Open, and has wrestled her way back to the world number two spot.

The Polish star has broken a number of WTA records during 2025, and will most likely continue to do so long into the future.

During an interview with Tennis Actu TV, Swiatek was told that she has never lost a completed WTA 1000 match after winning the first set.

Swiatek responded: “I don’t know. There are a lot of things like that that I hear, and it really strikes me, because I am not aware of this stuff. I don’t really follow that.

“These are things that the media or fans are catching and making a big deal out of it.

“But we are just focused on playing, and I am happy that I am one of these players who can have these kind of stats.

“I am really trying to be consistent and be there and play my best tennis.

“I think after I finish, I am going to have a look at these stats and think I did a good job.”

Following her shock defeat to Navarro in Beijing, Swiatek will look ahead to the Wuhan Open.

Iga Swiatek’s first opponent in Shanghai

After receiving a first-round bye, Iga Swiatek will face Czechia’s Marie Bouzkova in the second round.

Bouzkova, the world number 41, defeated Camila Osorio 6-3, 6-4 in the first round.

Swiatek and Bouzkova have played each other once before, at the 2024 French Open. Swiatek won the contest 6-4, 6-2.

If she defeats Bouzkova, Swiatek will face one of Elise Mertens, Belinda Bencic or Donna Vekic in the Wuhan Open third round.

In the fourth round, Swiatek would likely face one of Jasmine Paolini or Clara Tauson, before a potential quarter-final clash against American superstar Coco Gauff.
