Iga Swiatek has opened up about the conditions at the China Open following Coco Gauff’s comments on the court and the balls in Beijing.

Swiatek broke another WTA record as she raced to victory against Yue Yuan at the China Open by dropping just three games.

The World No. 2 set up a round of 32 clash with Camila Osorio as she continues her quest to make up ground on World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who is not playing the Chinese tournament.

Swiatek opened up about what the conditions were like at the China Open during her match with Yuan, following comments from other players.

Iga Swiatek opens up on China Open conditions

Swiatek was asked about the speed of the court in Beijing, following complaints from Gauff and Alex De Minaur.

The World No. 2 was naturally diplomatic about the situation, but did point out a difference she noticed in Beijing.

Asked if the court conditions were how she remembered from 2023, the Pole replied: “Yes, I would say so.”

“But for sure today the conditions were different than previous days,” the star said. “I think for most of the tournament it’s going to be drier and hotter.”

“I think this is what we should, like, adjust to, not today’s weather, because I think it was different than usual. But yeah, overall it’s pretty much the same as I remember. It’s nice.”

Swiatek has an exceptional record at the tournament, having won the China Open on her last appearance in 2023, making the Pole an incredibly popular presence on the Asian leg.

Iga Swiatek reveals the gift she was given at the China Open

Swiatek has enjoyed her time on the Asian swing thus far as she’s yet to lose a game at either the Korea Open or the China Open.

The Pole is a star attraction in Asia and she’s disclosed the presents she’s been given by her ardent fanbase in China.

“I got like a book with drawings. It was like a comic book. It was beautiful. People are really talented,” said Swiatek about the fan reaction to her appearance at the tournament.

“I feel like the Asian fans are making so much effort to give us something that actually means something to us and to them. I think it’s beautiful. I really appreciate that.

“I was shocked two years ago when I came here and I got gifts like that because I never experienced that before. Now it’s even more, I would say. People are really thankful and grateful for us coming and playing, sometimes inspiring them. Yeah, it’s something for sure that will motivate us, as well. It’s great.”

The Pole is back in action on September 28 as she looks to continue her unbeaten streak on the continent.
