‘I want to make the right decision,’ Emma Raducanu addresses coaching role
Emma Raducanu says she will not ‘rush’ into finding a new permanent coach after deciding to part ways with Andrew Richardson.
The 18-year-old will return to competitive action for the first time since lifting her first Grand Slam title in New York as she features at Indian Wells.
Following her US Open triumph, Raducanu split with Richardson after deciding not to extend their short-term arrangement.
Whilst LTA coach Jeremy Bates has been working with Raducanu at Indian Wells, the British teenager was quick to say that the partnership is temporary as she looks to find the right coach.
“Jeremy [Bates] is part of women’s tennis at the LTA so while he’s here he’s helping me out,” Raducanu said ahead of the California-based event.
“But going forwards I’m just going to wait and find the right person, I’m not going to rush into anything.
“I want to make sure I make the right decision.
“Even though I’m quite young I’ve got a lot of experience banked and at the end of the day you’re out there on your own and you have to be your own coach on the court, so I’m pretty comfortable.”
Despite her success at Flushing Meadows, Raducanu insists she has not changed her approach ahead of the Masters 1000 event.
“I don’t really want to change anything,” the British sensation explained.
“What got me to this point is not thinking anything differently so if I put additional thoughts in my head then that will just create a problem I think. I’m just going to keep going about my business and staying the same.”
