“I have bigger dreams” reveals confident Holger Rune after stunning upset of Novak Djokovic
He’d just completed the biggest victory of his life but Holger Rune was already thinking ahead. The sign of a true champion?
Holger Rune shocked the tennis world yesterday by stopping the greatest player on the planet from doing what most people expected. Rune defeated Novak Djokovic 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 to claim the Paris Masters 1000 title and become only the second person in the last few years to come from one set down in a three set match and beat the Serb.
Rune played spectacular tennis and dealt with the situation incredibly maturely for someone in their first big final. This maturity then continued into his post match press conference when he was asked if he had dreamt of such a moment?
“It was very emotional after the match. It’s probably the best feeling of my life, of my whole career. It’s kind of a small dream come true, even though I have bigger dreams.
“It’s a really good step on the way to be able to play these kind of matches against one of the greatest players like Novak. You know, to be able to win that last game was the biggest relief of my life.
“My stress level was very high, so, you know, super happy to come through.”
Holger Rune now heads to Turin as the first reserve for the ATP Masters Finals
