‘I am not going to sleep,’ Lorenzo Musetti thrills in marathon Acapulco win

Lorenzo Musetti has added another impressive result to his short but eventful career on the ATP Tour thus far to reach the quarter-finals in Acapulco.

Lorenzo Musetti walked away the victor 2-6 6-3 7-6 (7-1) in a tough encounter with Frances Tiafoe that lasted 2 hours and 44 minutes.

The 19-year-old Italian has only played 10 ATP main draw matches so far in his career, but he already has wins over Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori at Rome 2020, plus a first top-10 win over Diego Schwartzman in the first round of Acapulco this week.

‘I have no words,’ Musetti said in his post-match interview. ‘Today I think it was even tougher than yesterday [against Schwartzman].

‘Tiafoe played the first set incredible. He started so well. After that I played with heart, with everything that I could.

‘I am really proud of myself, with what I did. It was really tough. He is unbelievable. We are close friends, as you could see at the handshake, big hug with him.’

The Italian dropped to the floor after winning the final set tiebreak before embracing Tiafoe at the net.

‘It was an incredible night, an incredible match. I have a lot of adrenaline. I am not going to sleep.’

The rising star will face Grigor Dimitrov in the Acapulco quarter-finals.
