‘I am extremely excited!’ – Emma Raducanu to feature at the Transylvania Open

British sensation Emma Raducanu says she is ‘extremely excited’ to play at the Transylvania Open in front of Romanian fans.

The US Open champion, whose father was originally from Romania, has joined two-time Major champion Simona Halep on the list of entries for the event.

Halep will continue her return in her home country following her shock injury against Angelique Kerber in May, whilst Raducanu is bidding to continue her stunning form which saw her make history at Flushing Meadows.

“I am extremely excited to play at the Transylvania Open, in front of Romanian fans,” said Raducanu.

“My father is from Romania, so to participate for the first time in a WTA competition in the country where he was born is a special moment and I can’t wait to get to Cluj!”

Despite starting the year ranked 343rd in the world, Raducanu is now world number 22 and will compete in just her sixth WTA event of her career in Romania.

The Transylvania Open, played on the hard-court surface, will take place after the Indian Wells event from October 23-31.

Currently, Raducanu is ranked 14th in the race to the WTA Finals later this year, though could sneak into the event should she perform well at the events in October including the Transylvania Open.
