The third seeds secured a 6-4 6-2 victory in 66 minutes to claim the €23,500 prize money, while Hutchins and partner Colin Fleming faltered in their first final in almost two years.

“It’s a real honour to be in a final again,” Hutchins told ATPWorldTour.com. “We haven’t played a final for 20 months now, so it was fantastic to be there. It was a pleasure to compete against Jamie and John, who played really well. It is nice for British tennis, when we are all doing well.”

Peers and Murray appear to have found some form on clay, having reached the semi-finals in Casablanca and Bucharest.

“We played really well this week, having reached two semi-finals in the past couple of tournaments,” Murray said. “We had a really enjoyable week and it is a really good tournament. We hung out with Ross and Colin all week. It was cruel someone had to lose, but that is the way it is.”

“It feels really good,” added Peers. “To be able to get matches under our belt felt good. It’s good to get back in the winners’ circle.”

Meanwhile, world No.111 Martin Klizan was the first qualifier to win an ATP Tour title since June 2013 after he defeated Fabio Fognini 2-6 6-1 6-2.

Klizan, who saw off Mikhail Youzhny and defending champion Tommy Haas en route to the title, is also the first player outside of the Top 100 to win a title since February 2013.

“I had problems with my stomach throughout last night,” said Klizan, who climbs almost 50 places in the rankings up to No.62. “I think I slept only 30 minutes and I am now very tired. I was down after losing the first set, but I just wanted to keep fighting."
