Venus Williams made her long-awaited return to the WTA Tour last August.
The American icon, a winner of seven Grand Slam titles, produced a stunning performance to defeat compatriot Peyton Stearns on her return to the sport in Washington.
Venus is once again set to compete in Washington this year after receiving a wildcard for the singles event.
This year, Czech player Linda Noskova captured her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon – just as Venus Williams did 26 years ago.

Venus Williams arrived at the 2000 US Open as one of the favourites for the title, following her exploits in south-west London.
The youngster, seeded third, lived up to her billing as one of the tournament favourites, failing to drop a set en route to the quarter-finals.
Venus finally lost a set against French star Nathalie Tauziat, but ultimately emerged victorious from their last eight contest.
The American then stunned 1997 champion Martina Hingis, winning 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in New York.
By beating Hingis, Venus had set up a rematch against Lindsay Davenport.
Again Venus emerged triumphant, defeating Davenport 6-4, 7-5.
It was Venus’ 26th consecutive victory on the Tour and her fifth straight title [Wimbledon, Stanford, San Diego, New Haven, and the US Open].
She also became only the seventh woman in the Open Era to win Wimbledon and the US Open in the same calendar year.
“I feel that it was a very nice victory because I feel like I played Lindsay when she was playing some of her best tennis, and I won the match,” Venus told reporters in New York after the final.
“That was nice because I’ve beaten the number one and number two players in the rankings successively.
“That’s always really exciting when you win a Grand Slam tournament, that you know you performed your best and beat the best performers too.”
Venus Williams will play Washington Open doubles with Alexandra Eala
Venus and Eala teamed up for the first time at last month’s Bad Homburg Open.
The duo reached the quarter-final stage before losing to second seeds Olivia Nicholls and Tereza Mihalikova in straight sets.
The pair are now set to reunite at the Washington Open later this month.
Eala and Venus are also both set to compete in the singles draw.
Eala entered the main draw directly via her ranking. The Filipina is currently ranked 28th on the Tour.
Venus has entered the tournament via a wildcard.
Jessica Pegula and Qinwen Zheng have also received wildcards for the singles event.
