Alexandra Eala enjoyed a solid run at the Miami Open, but suffered a damaging points drop regardless.
After all, it was always going to be an unlikely task for her to replicate her semi-final berth from 2025, and as such, she has plummeted down the world rankings.
Having recently reached a career-high of 29th, the Filipina sensation now sits 45th, and at risk of dropping out of the top 50.
And yet, there is still so much cause for optimism, and arguably a reason to believe that Alexandra Eala has laid the foundation to actually achieve a new career-best ranking in the coming months.
Why Alex Eala can reach a career-high ranking soon
With Miami concluded, attention now instantly turns to clay-court tennis.
For Eala, this could be a welcome change, given that her play style should translate well to this surface.
Does anybody else even come close to Alex Eala’s popularity right now?
The clay demands hard work and rigour, and an undying attitude. She has all three in abundance, and also has a packed schedule to hopefully pick up plenty of points.
What also contributes to the suggestion that a new career-high ranking beckons is the fact that Eala has few points to defend in the coming months.
In 2025, she lost early in Madrid, even earlier in Rome, and in the first round at Roland Garros.
Eala will return a far better player with a much more well rounded game, and two additional tournaments to play too. It’s hard not to see her enjoying a far more successful few months, which should catapult her back up the rankings.
What does Alex Eala’s schedule look like for the clay-court swing?
Eala’s clay-court schedule already seems pretty set in stone, given there is little time for anything else to occur in between the tournaments she has already confirmed.
This swing of her season will begin in Linz, as part of a strong draw which includes Emma Raducanu, Jelena Ostapenko and former world number one Karolina Pliskova.
| Event | Round reached | Defeated by | Points to defend in 2026 |
| Roland Garros | First Round | Emiliana Arango | 10 |
| Italian Open | Round of 128 | Marta Kostyuk | 10 |
| Madrid Open | Round of 64 | Iga Swiatek | 30 |
| Oeiras Ladies Open | Round of 16 | Panna Udvardy | 15 |
Then, Eala has opted to enter qualifying in Stuttgart, highlighting her desperation to play against the world’s best and gain those crucial ranking points.
These two events are free hits for the 20-year-old, given she didn’t play either last year.
And then, it’s expected that she will again play Madrid, Rome and the French Open, needing only a handful of wins to gain a huge increase on last year’s dire tally.
