Holger Rune has already returned to a tennis court despite suffering a horrible Achilles injury at the Stockholm Open in October.

Rune suffered the shock injury in the Stockholm semi-final and he’s expected to be out for an incredibly long time.

The Dane has been remarkably positive about his recovery, with Rune suggesting he will come back better than ever.

Rune has already shared a video of him hitting balls on a tennis court, albeit on one leg, and a former top 20 star has shared her concern.

Holger Rune warned of ‘rehab burnout’ after returning to the tennis court

The Dane posted a video on his social media of himself hitting tennis balls while hopping on his one good leg.

Fans have shared their concern for the Dane’s health and now Daria Saville has shared her concern for Rune.

She wrote on X: “As someone who’s been through two ACL recoveries and an Achilles surgery, if I’d pushed this hard this early in rehab (return to play), I would’ve gone insane.

However, she was slightly more confident Rune had the mental capabilities to work through the issues, however.

She added: “I do think Holger is built differently, though, but I don’t know. I know rehab burnout too well.”

The Australian-Russian star has suffered two ACL injuries in three years, but she still managed to return to the court in 2023.

The star’s ranking has dropped off in recent years and she currently sits outside the top 100 of the WTA Tour rankings.

When will Holger Rune return to tennis?

Despite Rune’s positive attitude surrounding his Achilles injury, he is not expected to return to competitive tennis for a very long time.

In all likelihood, the Dane will probably miss most of the 2026 season with an outside chance of returning in the latter half of the year.

The star will likely want to return as soon as possible, but he should not rush his comeback. He has time on his side at 22 years of age.

Rune has already achieved plenty in his tennis career at such a young age, including a top 5 ranking and a Paris Masters victory.
