Holger Rune suffered a heartbreaking Achilles injury during his Stockholm Open semi-final with Ugo Humbert.

Rune has received advice from several top pros since the injury, which is expected to keep the Dane out of action for a very long time.

The 22-year-old has been extremely positive since suffering the injury, while he’s been keeping his fans updated about his recovery.

In his first interview since suffering the injury, Rune has once again seen the positive side to his disappointing injury.

Holger Rune stays positive after his Achilles injury

Rune’s return date is a long way off yet but the Dane has revealed that the injury has changed his perspective.

Speaking to Hard Court, the Dane said the devastating injury could help him come back stronger than ever.

He said: “We can’t undo what’s done, and now with the injury, maybe this is the slap in the face I needed to make me take my talent seriously and show myself what I am actually capable of doing. I honestly can’t wait to take myself to another level.”

Rune was incredibly highly regarded when he arrived on the ATP Tour as a teenager, especially after he won the Paris Masters in 2022.

He reached a career-high of world number four in the next year, but he fell down the rankings before his injury.

The star fell out of the top 10 in 2025, but it appears he could return to the sport even more revitalised than before.

Holger Rune’s career statistics to date

Rune’s time on the ATP Tour might have been dampened before his injury, but he’s still achieved some incredible things at such a young age.

The Dane has five titles to his name, including his groundbreaking maiden Masters victory at the Paris Masters.

He has reached three further Masters finals, with his last coming against Jack Draper in Indian Wells earlier this year.

With his positive outlook and his sheer raw talent, there is every chance he rise back up the rankings once again.
