Holger Rune has reacted to his crushing quarter-final loss to Valentin Vacherot in the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters.

Rune lost to another qualifier at the Shanghai Masters following his defeat to Terence Atmane in the Cincinnati Open.

The Dane missed out on a genuine chance to win the tournament after the withdrawal of Carlos Alcaraz and the early exits to Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner.

The star has reacted to the defeat by sending his fans a message on social media just hours after the brutal loss.

Holger Rune says his ‘legs let me down’ at the Shanghai Masters

Rune celebrated the Chinese fans after his final appearance on the ATP Tour’s Asian leg at the Japan Open and the Shanghai Masters.

“This is for the fans. Thank you China for all your love and support,” wrote the World No. 11 on social media after his quarter-final loss in Shanghai.

“You are amazing people with a good heart,” he continued. “Today my legs let me down, but you should know I really enjoyed being here and I will look forward to come back to your positive energy next year.”

Rune exited the quarter-finals of both tournaments he appeared in, losing to Jenson Brooksby in the quarter-finals in Tokyo.

The star has confirmed his appearance at the Stockholm Open, where he will be the number one seed in the tournament. It kicks off on October 13.

Holger Rune has made his intentions known with Stockholm Open entry

The Dane still has an outside chance of qualifying for the ATP Tour Finals in November and his entry into the Stockholm Open makes it clear that is something the star is hoping for.

Rune’s number one seeding at the tournament makes him the favourite to lift the trophy and the 250 points on offer could be crucial for the Dane.

The World No. 11 did not play the tournament last year so he is not defending any points at the tournament.

Rune is just 565 points behind Lorenzo Musetti, who currently occupies the final qualifying place, so any points in Stockholm could be incredibly important.
