Holger Rune qualifies for Next Gen Finals following Jannik Sinner withdrawal
Jannik Sinner’s withdrawal from the upcoming Next Gen Finals has opened the door to 18-year-old Danish star Holger Rune who has now secured his spot.
The teenager began his year at number 473 in the ATP Rankings before rising 355 places to a career-high number 118 on 1 November.
Rune became the youngest ATP Tour quarter-finalist for seven years when at the Santiago Open in March as a 17-year-old. The Dane, who also reached the quarter-final in Metz, became the first Danish player to reach a quarter-final since Kristian Pless in 2006.
However, the 18-year-old is best known for his ability to perform on the biggest stage against the best players in the world, having taken a set off world number one Novak Djokovic at the US Open before falling to the Serbian.
The teenage sensation has also captured three titles on the ATP Challenger Tour, lifting the trophy in Biella, San Marino and Verona.

Sinner is still in contention for a place in the ATP Finals in Turin, and is scheduled to compete next week in the Stockholm Open.
The Italian currently sits ninth in the Race To Turin, though Ruud’s recent qualification and Hurkacz’ impressive run in Paris leaves his hopes to feature in Turin in doubt.
