The ATP Finals hold a special place in the calendar, with many players and fans considering the tournament the fifth biggest of the season away from the four Grand Slams.

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have dominated the tournament since the millennium, sharing 13 trophies from the past 24 years.

Djokovic could compete in a joint-record 17 ATP Finals at the 2025 event, where a win would also make him the oldest tournament winner in history.

Despite their incredible run at the tournament, neither Federer nor Djokovic were able to win the tournament as a teenager.

John McEnroe is the only teenager to win the ATP Finals

John McEnroe burst onto the tennis scene as a teenager, and he swept up several records on the ATP Tour.

The American arrived at the ATP Finals at the number four seed, and he was placed in a group exclusively of compatriots.

McEnroe defeated Arthur Ashe, Jimmy Connors, and Harold Solomon to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament.

The American defeated Eddie Dibbs in straight sets to confirm another meeting with Ashe in the final.

Their second match at the tournament was far closer, and McEnroe needed a deciding set to lift the trophy.

With the win, McEnroe became the only teenager to win the tournament at the age of 19 years and 10 months, which is a record that still stands to this day.

The youngest ATP Finals winners in history

McEnroe was just five months younger than Pete Sampras, when he won the tournament for the first time in 1991.

Americans make up three of the top seven; Andre Agassi is third on the list for his win in 1990 at the age of 20 years and six months.
