The 23-year-old, who earned a spot in the main draw after defeating American Donald Young, won in 50 minutes after serving 11 aces and taking all of three of his break-point opportunities.

Australian Guccione, ranked 112 in the world, will face Mardy Fish as he seeks to reach his first ATP Tour quarter-final of the season.

Another wild card, American Jesse Levine, set up a second-round confrontation with top seed and two-time Los Angeles champion Tommy Haas after easing past countryman Bobby Reynolds 6-2 6-3, while Robert Kendrick crushed Vince Spadea 6-0 6-0 in 36 minutes.
