Coco Gauff French Open 2021

Gauff collapses as Krejcikova takes her place in last four

Coco Gauff and Barbora Krejcikova battled hard in the first set before the American fell to the Czech.

Coco Gauff was fighting well all the way through the first set before Krejcikova took it, but suffered from missing too many opportunities to go out in straight sets, 6-7 (6-8), 3-6.

The 17-year-old had five set points in the first set, including one in the tiebreak, but was unable to convert, before Krejcikova took her first opportunity after over 70 minutes of play.

From there, Gauff struggled to even land balls in the court, surrendering back-to-back breaks of serve as the Czech held with ease.

After smashing her racket in frustration when broken to 0-4, Gauff evenutally forced Krejcikova to serve for the match at 5-1.

Krejcikova struggled to do so, missing three consecutive match points from 40-0 to lose five straight points and make it 5-2.

Gauff held on, saving two more match points after saving none of the four previous break chances she gave up.

Krejcikova finally took the match at the sixth time of asking on her own serve to wrap up the match and reach her first Grand Slam semi-final.
