Seventh seed Ayumi Morita of Japan eased through with a 6-3 6-3 win over Tatiana Poutchek and is joined in the next round by Alberta Brianti of Italy, who overcame Australian Sophie Ferguson 7-6 (7-1) 6-4.

Elsewhere, ninth seed Maria Elena Camerin of Italy made light work of qualifier Chan Yanchong of China with a 6-2 6-2 win, while Abigail Spears of the United States beat Chang Kai-chen of Taiwan 6-3 7-6 (7-3).

Finally, Taiwan’s Chan Yung-jan comfortably defeated Frenchwoman Mathilde Johansson 6-1 6-1, while Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia saw off China’s Lu Jingjing 6-4 6-2.
