Emma Raducanu was one of four Grand Slam champions to lose on day one of Roland Garros.
Raducanu was beaten by Solana Sierra, 6-0 7-6(4) in her first round match in Paris, which was just her second match since coming back from a viral illness.
This defeat was clearly disappointing for the 2021 US Open champion, with Raducanu seemingly close to tears during her post-match press conference.
While Raducanu is one of the more high-profile exits on day one of Roland Garros, she is not the only Grand Slam champion to have already lost at the clay court major.

Emma Raducanu and three other Grand Slam champions lose at Roland Garros
Raducanu was one of four major champions to lose on day one at Roland Garros, with no former Grand Slam winners in the second round of the women’s singles draw in Paris.
The Briton was joined by Sloane Stephens, Sofia Kenin and Barbora Krejcikova, who also lost their first round matches.
Will Emma Raducanu ever reach the second week of a Grand Slam again?
Former US Open champion Stephens came through qualifying to enter the main draw at Roland Garros, where she reached the final in 2018.
However, Stephens was unable to continue her momentum, as she lost in the first round to Sara Bejlek 6-3, 6-2.
Sofia Kenin, who won her Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in 2020, is also a former Roland Garros finalist.
Kenin reached the final of the clay court major in 2020, but the now world number 87 has struggled for form this year.
The American was beaten by her compatriot Peyton Stearns 6-3, 6-3, with Kenin winning just three of her 16 matches so far this year.
Krejcikova was the Grand Slam champion who came the closest to winning her first round match, before suffering a heartbreaking defeat to Hailey Baptiste.
The two-time major singles champion had two match points in the second set tie-break, before Baptiste fought back to beat Krejcikova 6(7)-7, 7-6(6), 6-2.
Since Krejcikova won Roland Garros in 2021, she has only won one of her six matches at the tournament.
Who is the most shocking Grand Slam champion ever?
You never know what might happen…
How many Grand Slam champions remain at Roland Garros?
It was a different story in the men’s singles draw, where the only Grand Slam champion playing on day one was Novak Djokovic, who beat Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard after losing the first set.
Djokovic is one of five Grand Slam champions in the men’s singles tournament, which includes Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, Marin Cilic and the retiring Stan Wawrinka.

There are also still seven major winners remaining in the women’s singles draw, which is headlined by four-time Grand Slam champion Aryna Sabalenka.
Sabalenka is joined by Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka, Madison Keys and Jelena Ostapenko.
Three of these players are also former Roland Garros champions, with Swiatek winning the clay court major four times, while Gauff and Ostapenko have one title victory to their names in Paris.
