Finally! Andy Murray & Jamie Murray announce they will play doubles together


It’s the announcement all British tennis followers and doubles fans have been waiting for. Andy Murray and Jamie Murray will team up to play doubles next week at the Citi Open in Washington

 

Since having surgery on his dodgy hip, Andy Murray has been using doubles play to help his recovery and has played with a number of different partners but not his brother. Jamie Murray is one of the world’s greatest doubles players having been No.1 in the world. So the obvious question was why aren’t they playing together?

Well that question has now been answered as they will team up at the Citi Open.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Mark Ein, Tournament Director for the Citi Open said, ”

“They called us and said Andy really wanted to come back to DC and wanted to play doubles with his brother. We’re putting a real focus on doubles at the event – it’s a terrific piece of the competition and entertainment value for fans so we were thrilled he wanted to return.”

The brothers mother, Judy Murray, was quickly onto social media sharing the news in the way she does best, with a photo of the two tennis stars together when they were younger.

 

Andy has already had great success with his new doubles career, winning the Queen’s Club title with Spanish player Feliciano Lopez. Jamie has recently split with his long term doubles partner, Bruno Soares, and has been looking for a new partner. It’s unlikely that him and Andy will form a long term partnership as Andy has made no secret of the fact that he wants to try and play singles again, but it seems like their schedules have worked out well for next week allowing them to team up on the doubles court.
