Felix Auger-Aliassime in buoyant mood as he closes in on ATP Tour Finals qualification
Felix Auger-Aliassime is confident in continuing his stunning form with a strong showing at the Paris Masters this week.
Auger-Aliassime, the world number 8, has enjoyed some of the best form of his young career so far over the last few weeks. He has won three titles in a row, in Florence, Antwerp and Basel and believes he can do the same this week.
He told ATP: ”For sure I didn’t expect this run [three straight titles]. Day-by-day, things clicked, and I was playing better. I do enjoy these courts, playing indoors. There’s no reason why I shouldn’t be able to play well here.”
The Canadian is currently sixth in the ATP live Race to Turin, and a deep run in Paris will almost certainly guarantee a maiden appearance at the Tour Finals, which take place from 13th to 20th November.
Felix Auger-Aliassime is currently on a 13-match winning streak and will hope it continues against Sweden’s Mikael Ymer as he begins his campaign on Wednesday.
Taylor Fritz has more work to do if he is join Auger-Aliassime and make his tour finals debut in Turin. Fritz, the US number one, is currently eighth in the race and desperately needs a strong showing to boost his chances.
He has made a good start, with a comfortable 7-5 6-2 victory against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Monday.
He will now face home favourite Gilles Simon with the Frenchman playing in his final ATP event before retiring. Simon came back from the brink to defeat Andy Murray in three sets on Monday night.
