Felix Auger-Aliassime secured his first ATP title of 2026 by defeating Adrian Mannarino in Montpelier.

The world number five’s victory at Open Occitanie was his ninth ATP title and his seventh on an indoor hardcourt.

Auger-Aliassime made Canadian tennis history by picking up the win and he looks a sure-fire favourite to lift another trophy at the Rotterdam Open, particularly after withdrawals from Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev.

The Canadian’s latest title victory on the ATP Tour has now seen him surpass two records previously held by Jannik Sinner.

Felix Auger-Aliassime takes two Jannik Sinner records

Auger-Aliassime’s record on an indoor hardcourt is widely-considered one of the best on the ATP Tour and now he has two records to show for it.

The star earned his eighth indoor trophy since 2022, which is now a number that none of his rivals can match.

How would you rate Felix Auger-Aliassime’s chances of winning a Grand Slam in 2026?

Sinner has seven indoor finals since 2022, including victories at last year’s ATP Finals, Paris Masters, and Vienna Open.

Auger-Aliassime’s victory in Montpelier also secured him his 10th final on an indoor surface, which is one more than Sinner has managed since 2022.

The Canadian has reached four indoor finals in the space of a year now, and he’s only tasted defeat in one of them.

Auger-Aliassime lost to Sinner in the final of the Paris Masters in a 6–4, 7–6 in the French capital.

Sinner and Auger-Aliassime are undoubtedly the best two indoor players on the ATP Tour currently, but the Canadian could be close to edging the multi-time Grand Slam champion.

Felix Auger-Aliassime explains why he is so good on indoor hardcourts

Auger-Aliassime believes his record on indoor hardcourts is so good because the conditions exemplify his game.

Speaking in Montpelier, he revealed: “I am aware that my style of play does not represent the most entertaining part of tennis, but it’s something that works for me when competing; let’s say it’s something I need to achieve victories.

“The serve is one of the key elements in my game; it’s hard for me to win if this part is not working. Obviously, today, besides the serve, I did many other things well, but it’s true that I served exceptionally well.

What is your bold prediction for the 2026 tennis season?

“Here, under indoor conditions, the damage inflicted with the service is even greater; with the absence of wind, you can find a much higher rhythm than usual.”

Auger-Aliassime will be hoping to continue his hardcourt success at the Rotterdam Open, where he begins his campaign against Alexei Popyrin.
