There were doubts over Federer's participation in the clay court events after he pulled out of the Mutua Madrid Open to be with his pregnant wife Mirka.
However, after the couple celebrated the birth of their second set of twins on Tuesday, the Swiss now looks set to continue his record-breaking Grand Slam streak at Roland Garros.
He has played in 57 consecutive Grand Slams and will be making his 16th straight appearance at the French Open.
His agent Tony Godsick told ATPWorldTour.com: “Roger plans on playing Roland Garros and he will make a decision at the last minute if he will play Rome depending on how everything is going with his family.”
Federer has reached the final of his only clay court event this season in Monte Carlo where he lost to Swiss compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka.
He has been practising this week with 19-year-old Nicholas Kyrgios, one of the rising stars of the ATP Tour.
