Emma Raducanu has received a wild card for the 2025 Korea Open, but she’s got a worrying history at the tournament.

Raducanu is skipping the Billie Jean King Cup in favour of playing the WTA 500 event, the Korea Open, in Seoul, South Korea.

The British No. 1 had a promising summer, which culminated with Raducanu making the third round of the US Open.

Raducanu’s decision to play the Korea Open is a brave one considering the difficulties she’s suffered at the Asian tournament.

Emma Raducanu has retired during both appearances at the Korea Open

Raducanu has played the tournament on two occasions, but both have been derailed due to the British star’s injury issues.

The 22-year-old was impressive during her last appearance in Seoul in 2024, reaching the quarter-finals of the tournament thanks to wins against Peyton Stearns and Yuan Yue.

The star played Daria Kasatkina in the last eight of the tournament, but left the court after only playing one set.

Raducanu received treatment on her foot after losing the first set 6-1 and never returned to the court for the second set.

It was the same story in the 2022 edition of the tournament, but that time Raducanu had made the semi-finals.

Raducanu defeated Moyuka Uchijima, Yanina Wickmayer, and Magda Linette to reach the semi-final stages against Jelena Ostapenko.

The two women won a set apiece, but a left glute issue forced Raducanu to retire in the decider after the Grand Slam champion went a break up.

The British star will be hoping for better luck at the 2025 event as she looks to continue her quest to the top 32.

What Emma Raducanu needs from new coach, Francisco Roig

Raducanu introduced a brand-new coach into the fold for her US Open campaign in the form of Rafael Nadal’s former team member, Francisco Roig.

The star worked with the King of Clay for most of his Grand Slam-laden career and hopes are high for the British No. 1’s chance of success.

Martina Navratilova believes Raducanu needs to stick with the coach for at least a year after multiple changes throughout her short career.

“I think you need to give it some time – you can’t after a month judge whether somebody’s a good fit or not,” said the multiple Grand Slam winner on Sky Sports.

“You should know what their philosophy is before you sign up with them, and then you need to buy into it and trust the process,” explained the star.

Raducanu heads into the end of 2025 defending only a few points, so there’s a high chance of rising in the WTA Tour rankings.
