Days after claiming she was not looking for a new coach, Emma Raducanu has reunited with former coach Mark Petchey on an informal basis.

Raducanu, the British number one, has endured a period of inconsistent results since parting ways with coach Francisco Roig.

However, Raducanu has now called upon the services of Petchey once again, and she will hope the former world number 80 can help to improve her form during the ‘sunshine swing’ in Indian Wells and Miami.

At which Grand Slam is Emma Raducanu most likely to win a second major title? Let us know why below 👇

Raducanu enjoyed a successful period under the tutelage of Petchey last year, reaching quarter-finals in Miami and at the Queen’s Club.

Petchey is the right choice for Raducanu at this stage in her career, and her previous results under the Englishman demonstrate why this is the case.

Emma Raducanu has made the perfect decision by reuniting with Mark Petchey

Following Petchey’s arrival in March 2025, Emma Raducanu played the most consistent tennis of her career.

Under Petchey’s tutelage, Raducanu reached the latter stages of tournaments and defeated some of the best players on the planet.

For example, at the 2025 Miami Open, the British number one beat two elite American players on her way to the quarter-finals: Emma Navarro and Amanda Anisimova.

Although Raducanu did suffer a couple of early exits in Eastbourne and Madrid, on the whole, she did produce some of her best tennis since winning the 2021 US Open.

Raducanu also seems to have a great relationship with Petchey off the court, which can only be a positive when analysing the potential impact of Petchey’s presence.

Mark Petchey said he would ‘take a bullet’ for Emma Raducanu

Petchey and Raducanu remained in contact after their split last summer, and have seemingly maintained a positive relationship throughout.

Speaking on The Big T podcast in January, Petchey said: “Emma and I never fell out… It just got to the point where I felt I couldn’t be the No. 1 coach [due to my media commitments].

Emma Raducanu won her first Grand Slam too soon – Prove me wrong!

“We still chat, we’re still in good communication… I’ll help her forever, I’ll take a bullet for her.”

Petchey’s involvement in Raducanu’s coaching set-up is on an informal basis, as it was when they worked together last year.

It will be interesting to see how long the pair will work together: Petchey was unable to commit fully to coaching Raducanu last year due to his media commitments.
